In San Francisco this past weekend, the Good Food Awards named our Sloe Gin a winner in the Spirits category of the National 2018 awards. We couldn’t be more proud! Not only is the competition of quality spirits fierce around the country but the acknowledgment of our commitment to sustainable production practices is just thrilling for us.
Over 1000 people gathered to pay tribute to all Good Food Award Winners of 2018. We were seated in the San Francisco Opera House, with numerous farmers, makers, chefs, journalists, and activists all united to celebrate the exceptional artisan food craft including the keynote speaker and craft food luminary Alice Waters.
The winners were chosen in a blind tasting with judges held in September. The highest scoring entries were submitted to a rigorous vetting process to verify they met the sustainability and social responsibility criteria to win a Good Food Awards. And it’s been amazing to know that this year’s winners represent the forefront of American craft food, making products that are delicious, respectful of the environment, and connected to communities and cultural traditions.
Accepting the award for us were Ashby and Timo Marshall. ‘We’re incredibly thrilled to receive this recognition for our traditionally made Sloe Gin — the spirit and tradition which was the initial inspiration for our craft distillery”, stated Ashby Marshall, Spirit Works Co-Founder, Marketing Director and first distiller. “And we’re proud to be highlighted among such an amazing group of creative, artisan producers who also value the importance of mindful, sustainable, hands-on production — which has been at the heart of our grain-to-glass process since we began our distilling journey.”
