Gin Batch #011 was the first Spirit Works product in which we were able to repurpose spent mash. As a grain to glass distillery we mill, mash, and ferment our grain onsite to generate the initial alcohol that we will then distill off at a much higher alcohol by volume percentage. We remove that initial alcohol from our ferment via a distillation process called stripping. There are two bi-products from stripping; spent mash, or ferment, and low wines. Low wines will go on to become fine spirits and the spent mash is considered waste. It has always been the plan to find a way to utilize our spent mash as feed.
